Provide for surviving spouses
One of the best reasons to delay collecting Social Security until age 70 is it not only maximizing retirement benefits, but those larger benefits will translate into the largest possible survivor benefits for the spouse left behind. It is not necessary for both spouses to wait until 70 to claim benefits, but it can be a smart move for the spouse with the higher benefit to wait until 70.
